Xylem - The water-conducting tissue of vascular plants which consists of dead hollow cells in the form of fibres and sclereids and some living parenchyma providing mechanical support, is called xylem. The main functions of the xylem is to transport water and mineral salts and to provide rigidity to various plant organs. Xylem tissues frequently exist in the vascular pores of the roots, stems and leaves of the plants.

Phloem - Vascular tissue through which food is prepared by the leaves are transported to various organs of the plants is called phloem. Basically phloem tissue is a composition of four types of cells - sieve tubes, companion cells, phloem parenchyma and phloem fibres. The cells sieve tubes have a number of pores like holes in the wall and through it food is transported and distributed to various organs.
