Winston Churchill had honed his speaking skill very effectively that whatever was said, the feelings, which he tried to convey was felt by everyone and soon the phrases he had used where on everyone’s mouth.  His famous phrases were “Blood, toil, tears and sweat”… “We will fight on the beaches”.  This is the same feeling all the inmates had when they had gathered together to listen to his speech.

BBC had conducted an audience research and found out that 51% of the population had listened to Churchill’s first broadcast as Prime Minister on 19th May. Some of the comments received on his speech were “courageous and hopeful”.  Rub Butler’s (Churchill’s political opponent) Private Secretary Henry Chips admitted that “Churchill’s speech though left him unmoved, the nation, doubtlessly, was impressed” and that was seen in Gallup Poll, the rating he received was 88%, which was extraordinary.
