The lesson, “Footprints Without Feet”, is about a detective Ausable, who uses his intelligence and presence of mind to counter his rival rather than using guns or other tools.  

He created two imaginary stories. He created a story of a non-existent balcony as if one existed besides the window. The rival agent Mr. Max thought it to be real as the story made by Ausable seemed too real and he believed him.  

The other one was the arrival of the police when instead it was the hotel waiter, who bought the drink ordered by Ausable even before he entered the room. The balcony story was a trap for killing the rival agent.
