Mass communication refers to the exchange of information, ideas or knowledge to a large group of people on a large scale through different channels of communication.
These channels of communication include print media which include newsletters, journals, magazines, memos and newspapers.
Another channel of communication is electronic media, which includes use of television broadcast, radio and internet.
And nowadays we have the media channels, where people are able to share messages through whatsapp, facebook and messengers etcetera.
With the advancement in technology, mass communication has made positive impact to our societies, for instance
1.Mass communication helps to keep people informed of the daily happenings especially in matters of news, socially, politically and economically.
2.Mass communication helps the audience in making informed decisions with regards to events that are happening around them. for instance in matters related to political issues especially during campaigns it helps them in making decisive stands on what party to support and what they expect to be done for them.
3.Mass communication provides a public platform for people around the word to get involved in issues that most commonly affect people and how they can help others. For instance child abuse, gender based violence, hunger and global warming are some of the few issues that are globally felt and affects each and everyone. Through media platform people and organizations are able to come up with ways of helping other be it donations, having open talks and so on.

Through mass media, individuals and companies are able to market their products through advertising the different products and services through different platforms of media like use of television, radio and print media. This helps to sensitize people and help them to know what exactly they want with regard to their preference.
