India is a South Asian country and is centrally and strategically very important.  India shares its land boundaries with Pakistan and Afghanistan in the North-West. India also shares the land boundries with Sri Lanka which is situated near the Southern tip of India. It is separated from India by a narrow channel of sea formed by the Palk Strait and the Gulf of Mannar. Sri Lanka is an island country.
China, Nepal and Bhutan are India's neighbours in the North. India shares a common boundary with Myanmar and Bangladesh in the East. Maldives is an island country situated in the Arabian Sea, to the South of the Lakshadweep Islands.
