The lady was 40 yrs old talkative and not attractive. She loved the writing of the narrator and wanted to congratulate him on his work. She was in fact a women of forty a charming age, but not one that excites a sudden and devastating passion at first sight.

In this question, we are asked to write about lady drakmanton's character.

  • Saki uses a variety of feminine vices and virtues to characterize Lady Drakmanton.
  • She strikes me as being very calculating, cunning, and money minded.
  • Her husband, Sir James, wants to host a luncheon for Smithley Dubbs to build a relationship with them and win their support; however, his wife is not a fan of his plan and finds a way to host the luncheon at Carlton without paying Smithley Dubbs.
  • Lady Drakmanton takes advantage of the fact that her sister, who resembles her, must attend Carlton with some of her invitees to deceive Dubbs.
  • She enjoys a sumptuous lunch with Dubbs, and in the meantime, Lady Drakmanton pretends to have lost all memory of herself.
  • She claims that she was not the one who invited the three sisters to lunch at Carlton; rather, she claims that they requested her to go.
  • Later, she introduces herself as Ellen Niggle from the Ladies' Brass polishing Guild and explains that she had gone to the club for polishing.
  • They learn from her who has just entered the room: Lady Drakmanton.
  • The Dubbs sisters were concerned when they realized their error.
  • She departs from them, stating she must go to her polishing work, and thanks them for the meal before leaving them behind.
