describe light reaction in plants

GAnshu1: happens in grana thylakoid
GAnshu1: it requires light
GAnshu1: first it gets activated to the light energy
GAnshu1: then potolysis takes place... h2o-h+ and oh-
GAnshu1: this h combines with Nadph
GAnshu1: and liberates atp energy
rabinmukherjee6040: Yes and this reaction is termed as photophosphorylation
GAnshu1: yes

The main purpose of the light reactionis to generate organic energy molecules such as ATP and NADPH which are needed for the subsequent dark reaction. Chlorophyll absorbs the red and blue segment of the white lightand photosynthesis occurs most efficiently at these wavelengths.

Light is used during this reaction hence it is known as Light Reaction. It takes place in the  'granna" of the chloroplast.

The various steps involved are:-

1) Light falls on the leaves and gets absorbed by the chlorophyll.

2) Light breaks down the water molecule into Hydrogen proton, elctron and molecular oxygen which is released through the stomata.

3) The electrons and protons are used to generate assimilatory power in the form of NADPH( Reduced Nicotinamide Adenine Dineucleotide Phosphate) and ATP( Adenosine Triphosphate).;

Hope it helps
