Describe "Mechanism of Transportation in plants".
Answers
Ascent of Sap = The upward movement of water, Minerals & Salt from root to the different part of the plant body.
Mechanisms are:-
[1] Root Pressure
In the soil more water & mineral is present in root. So it create pressure gradient. Due to this pressure gradient water enter into the root hairs. Now, the water diffuses from the root hair to the corticle (Inner part) cells of root. Due to osmotic concentration water moves from corticle part to the xylem part of the root.
[2] Cohesion-Adhesion Force
Water moves from root to stem & in the higher part in the form of column. This water column is maintain by 2 force (i) Cohesion force which occurs between water molecules (ii) Adhesion force which occurs between water molecules & wall of xylem vessel. The Cohesion- adhesive force help the water to move in the upward direction.
[3] Transpiration Pull
Excess amount of water is removed by transpiration which create the deficiency in the plant body which pulls the water column of the upward.

Mechanism Of Transportation:-
Plants absorb water and minerals from soil by roots and transport to the leaves.
Water is moved into xylem of roots and from where it is pushed upward.
Plants use different mechanisms to pull water upwards through xylem.
Water which is lost through stomata is replaced by water absorbed by the roots.
