  • The cycle of producing and releasing a mature ovum, thickening of the uterus wall, and its shedding  is called the menstrual cycle.
  • The first menstrual flow begins at puberty is known as menarche.
  • Once in a month the process of release of an ovum by an ovary takes place which is called ovulation.
  • It occurs under the influence of 2 main hormones, namely Oestrogen and Progesterone secreted by the ovary.
  • Around 45-50 years of age, the menstrual cycle stops and female is no longer reproductive. This is known as menopause.
