These rocks are formed by the extreme heat and pressure which are buried under the earth.

A metamorphic rock is a type of rock that has been formed after being subjected to high heat and pressure under the earth. "Meta"means change and "Morph" means form. So there is a change of physical and chemical properties when a rock changes to metamorphic rock.
