Mini's mother is a typical housewife from the aristocratic bengal family. She is a very timid lady. Whenever she hears a noise in the street, or sees people coming towards the house, she always jumps to the conclusion that they are either thieves, robbers, or dunkards.

Mini is the only child of the narrator and his wife. At the beginning of the story, she is a talkative, inquisitive, and energetic five-year-old. She is very close with her father, preferring him instead of her short-tempered mother who frequently scolds her for talking too much and asking too many questions.
