moissan isolated florine by electrolysis of dry potassium hydrogen fluoride and anhydrous hydrofluoric acid.

OR

electrolysis of a solution of potassium hydrogen difluoride (KHF2) in liquid hydrogen fluoride (HF).

Hey dear,

● Moissan's method for isolation of fluorine -
- French chemist, Henry Moissan first extracted fluorine from hydrochloric acid with the help of electrolysis.
- In this method, potassium hydrogen defluoride and hydrofluoric acid is mixed into a solution.
- Positively charged hydrogen ions and negatively charged fluorine ions are seperated with the help of electrodes and fluorine gas is collected.
At anode :- 2F- --> F2 + 2e-
At cathode :- 2H+ 2e- ---> H2

● Modifications in original method -
- Originally Moisson used expensive Pr/Ir alloy in electrolytic cell.
- Instead, new method uses affordable copper, steel or Monet metal is used as electrodes.

Hope this helps you...
