Nitrogen fixation is a process by which atmospheric nitrogen is converted into soluble nitrates .This process takes place through Symbiosis

what is symbiosis?

Symbiosis is relationship between two organisms in which both organisms are mutually benefitted.

EXAMPLE:

Symbiosis between rhizobium bacteria and Leguminous plants. Rhizobium bacteria lives in the root nodules of leguminous plants (plants which give cereals) the plants provide food and shelter to the rhizobium bacteria(bacteria is benefitted) in return the bacteria converts the atmospheric nitrogen into nitrates ( soluble nitrates) containing proteins which is absorbed by the plant. This way the plant gets proteins needed for its growth( plant is benefitted). This way nitrogen fixation takes places through symbiosis

Hope this helps
