Describe northern plain on the basis of their location.

The Northern plain
To the south of the Northern Mountains lies and extensive flat plain.Its average height is about 200 m above sea level and it is also known as the Indo-Gangetic plain. it is made up of alluvial deposited by the rivers Indus, Ganga ,Brahmaputra and its tributaries.These alluvial deposits make the place extremely fertile and suitable for agriculture .
From west to east ,it stretches from about 2500 kilometres. The plain comprises of three sections the Indus plain, Ganga plain and Brahmaputra Plains .



In Indus plaine: it is drained by the Indus and its tributaries Chenab,Jhelum, Ravi Beas and Sutlej .A major portion of this plane lies within Pakistan .the Indian portion is located in the Punjab and Haryana.

Ganga plain: it is the most expensive part of the northern plains and covers Uttar Pradesh, Northern Madhya Pradesh, Bihar and West Bengal. It is drained by Ganga and its tributaries -Yamuna Ghaghra ,gandak, kosi ,son and Damodar


Brahmaputra Plains: it is located in Assam .it is drained by the Brahmaputra and its tributaries- subansiri ,Bharali Manas ,dhansiri and Tista .the Brahmaputra originates in Tibet where it is called the Tsangpo. the Ganga and Brahmaputra river join in the lower courses in Bangladesh these two rivers together form the largest delta in the world the Ganga Brahmaputra Delta also called is Sunderban Delta. a major part of it lies in Bangladesh
