For starch is iodine solution , pour it on the food a blue black colour comes. For fats is ethanol or oil, pour it on food a white color appears or it becomes translucent. For protein is Biuret solution ,by pouring it on food it becomes pink-purple.

TEST FOR STARCH-

a little starch powder is shaken in a test tube with some water and then boil to make solution. when the solution is cold,add a few drops of iodine solution. the starch solution would turn blue black indicating the presence of starch.

TEST FOR PROTEIN-

place a piece of hard boiled egg white in a test tube and add conc. nitric acid enough to immerse the sample of the food taken. heat the test tube gently,then cool the test tube and add ammonium hydroxide.you would notice a colour change upon adding ammonium hydroxide.

TEST FOR FATS -

rub a piece of ground nut ,walnut,a piece of butter on a plane paper.the spot rubbed turns translucent especially when viewed against light.
