(a)

  • smash/crush/grind the food item to be tested.
  • add this to 10ml of water in a tube.
  • add this mixture with 2-3 drops of copper sulphate solution.
  • also add 10 drops of caustic soda and shake it well.
  • observe the color of the sample.
  • Violet color indicates the presence of protein.

(b)

  • Put few drops of iodine on the food.
  • If the color changes to black/blue.
  • Then the presence of starch is confirmed.

(c)

  • Take a tissue paper.
  • put the sample on the tissue.
  • crush the sample under the tissue.
  • observe the tissue.
  • oil strains on the tissue mark the presence of fat in the sample.
