• Parenchyma consists of relatively unspecialized living cells within thin cell wall.

• Inter-cellular spaces are present in it. They are actually loosely packed.

• Parenchyma provides support to the plant. They are present in the soft part of the plant.

• The parenchyma of stems and roots also stores food and water.

• In aquatic plants, large air cavities are present in parenchyma to help them float. They are known as aerenchyma.

Functions of parenchyma :

• It stores the waste material present in plant, it sometimes also helps in photosynthesis.

• It stores and assimilates the food.

• The cell wall of parenchyma helps in transportation of materials.
