Due to foreshortening, nearby objects show a larger parallaxthan farther objects when observed from different positions, so parallax can be used to determine distances. To measure large distances, such as the distance of a planet or a star from Earth, astronomers use the principle of parallax.

manvikalosi: can we use it for short distances also9

parallax is a method of measuring distance to an object . similar to how our binocular vision helps us determine distance, the direction to a distant point is slightly different from two separate observation position
