After Cripps departure, Mahatma Gandhi framed a resolution calling for British withdrawal and a non-violent non-cooperation movement against any Japanese invasion. The famous Quit India Resolution was passed in the Bombay session of the AICC on August 8, 1942, followed by the call for a 'mass struggle on the non-violent lines on the widest possible scale' under Gandhi's leadership.
