What is a periodic motion ?

Periodic motion is the motion which is uniform in definite intervals of time.

Examples :

⇒ The revolution of the Earth around the Sun .

Why is it a periodic motion ?

Answer : It is a periodic motion because the Earth completes the revolution in a definite interval of time.

The Earth always takes 1 year approximately to revolve the Sun and that never changes.

A pendulum clock .

The pendulum shows motion periodically and it never varies.

The pendulum is hence another example of periodic motion.

Suppose a body moves 4 m in 1 s and the next second it covers 5 m , then it is not a periodic motion.

If the body would have covered the same distance in the same interval of time,  we could have said the body was in periodic motion.

Take the example of seasons.

Seasons are always periodic and is eternal and never changes.

Thus periodic motion is the motion which is repeated several time in equal intervals of time .

Simple harmonic motion is an example of periodic motion.

Rather its a special case of periodic motion .

Mostly music is a form of periodic motion.

Noise is mostly non-periodic.
