The photoelectric effect is a phenomenon in physics. The effect is based on the idea that electromagnetic radiation is made of a series of particles called photons. When a photon hits an electron on a metal surface, the electron can be emitted. The emitted electrons are called photoelectrons.

so photoelectric effect was given by einstein. He explained photoelectric effect. It basically when the light rays falls on a metal and electron on the last shells gets energised which results in moving out of electron. When a circuit is connected with this metal it acts as a battery and we can see motion of current. But only minute amount of current can be given as electrons move at a slow rate.
