Rowlatt Act gave the british enormous powers to repress the political activites and allowed detension of political prisoners without trial for two years.

The government had got special wartime powers to maintain law and order to be focus on winning the war(world war II). Anyone who opposed the government could able to jailed immediately and kept in prison for a long time without going to court. People were not given the freedom of speech. This act is known as rowlatt act. This bill passed in parlement of British india in 1919
