Deccan policy of Mughals during the reign of shah Jahan remained quiet successful. Shah jahan attempted either to annex the kingdoms of Deccan or force them to accept the suzerainty of the emperor. He was capable commander and understood the politics of Deccan well. The death of Malik Ambar, The wazir iof Ahmadnagar, provided him good opportunity to out pressure in Ahmadnagar.

Under Shah Jahan, the Deccan policy of the Mughals entered a new phase. He annexed Ahmadnagar and Daulatabad. He forced the rulers of Bijapur and Golconda to accept his superemecy. In 1636, Shah Jahan retired to agra and appointed Aurangzeb as the Governor of Deccan.
