Describe sliding filament theory of muscle contraction.

1. Sliding Theory states that contraction of a muscle fibre takes place by the sliding of the thin filaments over thick filaments.

2. It is initiated by a signal sent by the central nervous system via motor neuron.

3. The junction between a motor neuron and sacrolemma of the muscle fibre is called neuromuscular junction.

4. A neural signal reaching this junction releases a neurotransmitter which generates an action potential in sacrolemma.
