Answer:

Grandfather lived in our house and rarely left it, preferring to sit quietly on the chair, looking out through the window, always the same chair. Watching family members come and go listening to their conversations.

It was Christmas and it was grandfather’s birthday. The big day arrived. Beads of perspiration stood on my

mother’s as she busied herself energetically in the kitchen, putting the final touches to her preparations the occasion. Back and forth, she went carrying serving dishes to the table.

Stirring the contents of cooking pots end taking them from the cupboard plates glasses needed. The pots on the stove, sending clouds of hot steam around the kitchen, everybody was smiling and shouting with excitement as it was a big Christmas day.

Suddenly, our house was full of people, as guests arrived at the appointed time. Greetings were exchanged and people embraced, some had not seen one another for a long time because others work overseas and come home holidays like these.

Elderly aunts uncles chatted with children, who were terribly bored by the routine exclamations about how much taller they had become. My cousin, Thato, arrived with her mother who dashed into the kitchen to offer assistance to my mother.

Then later food was served, delicious food and cool drinks. My grandfather was very happy to see the family together and on his thanksgiving speech he said we ought to always remain the family and that could be achieved through loving one another.

After eating, the children played in the play garden and the teenagers sit by the doorway, busy on their phones while others were listening to some house music. Inside, elderly people were catching up on old days, laughing and enjoying themselves.
