Answer:

Squamous Epithelium -

  • Squamous epithelium is thin layer of flattened cells with irregular boundaries.
  • They are found in the walls of blood vessels and long alveoli.
  • The function of squamous epithelium is to form a diffusion boundary.

Cuboidal Epithelium -

  • They are composed of cube like cells.
  • They are found in ducts and glands and tubular parts of nephrons.
  • The function of cuboidal epithelium is to secrete and absorb.
  • The cuboidal epithelium found in the proximal convoluted tubule of nephron has microvilli.

Columnar Epithelium -

  • They are composed of tall and slender cells whose nuclei are located at the base.
  • They have a free surface which may have microvilli.
  • They are prominently found in the lining of stomach and intestine.
  • Their function is to secrete and absorb.

Answer:

Squamous epithelium

Structure - A simple squamous epithelium is a single layer of flat cells in contact with the basal lamina (one of the two layers of the basement membrane) of the epithelium.

Location - Areas where it can be found include: skin, capillary walls, glomeruli, pericardial lining, pleural lining, peritoneal cavity lining, and alveolar lining.

Function - Absorption and filtration processes .

Cuboidal epithelium

Structure - Cuboidal epithelium with large, rounded, centrally located nuclei, all the cells of this epithelium are directly attached to the basement membrane.

Location - cuboidal epithelia are found on the surface of [ ovaries], the lining of nephrons, the walls of the renal tubules, and parts of the eye and thyroid.

Function - The important functions of the cuboidal epithelium are secretion and absorption.

Columnar epithelium

Structure - Columnar epithelial cells are elongated and column-shaped and have a height of at least four times their width.

Location - A columnar epithelium is a single layer of columnar cells attached to the basement membrane, with oval-shaped nuclei located in the basal region.

Function - Columnar epithelia are also located in the stomach where it secretes acid, digestive enzymes and mucous.
