The most notable military achievement of Pulakeshi was his victory over the powerful northern emperor Harsha-vardhana, whose failure to conquer the Chalukya kingdom is attested by the Chinese pilgrim Xuanzang. In the east, Pulakeshi subjugated the rulers of Dakshina Kosala and Kalinga.
