irrigation:The Cholas ruled over southern India from 3 BCE to 1279 CE.

Large number of wells were dug and tanks constructed to assist farmers. Stone dams were put up across rivers like Cauvery, to use water for agriculture. Channels carried water from such dams to distant farms.
