describe the appearance of the different types of mixtures. fill i the thinking cap below to summarize our lesson?
Answers
Homogeneous mixtures are solutions. The components that make them up are evenly distributed and the appearance of the solution is uniform throughout. Solutions can be solid, liquid, and gas. Brass is a metal alloy (solution) composed of the metals copper and zinc. Copper sulfate solution is an example of a liquid solution. Air is a solution of oxygen gas, carbon dioxide gas, nitrogen gas and others.
Heterogeneous mixtures are not solutions. The components of a heterogeneous mixture are visible and not uniform throughout. Some examples of heterogeneous mixtures are soil, granite, and conglomerate.
Examples of Mixtures
Crude oil: A mixture of organic compounds (mainly hydrocarbons)
Seawater: A mixture of various salt and water.
Air: a mixture of various gases like oxygen, carbon dioxide, nitrogen, argon, neon, etc.
Ink: A mixture of coloured dyes.
Gunpowder: A mixture of sulfur, potassium nitrate and carbon.
There are two types of mixture homogeneous mixtures and heterogeneous mixture.
In homogeneous mixture all the components of the mixture are in same phase.
eg:salt water
In heterogeneous mixture the components are not in a same phase.
Eg:mixture of chalk and water
