The question is asked from the story the Engine Trouble which is written by the story writer R. K. Narayan. The story is taken from the book The Malgudi Days. In the story, the narrator wants to sell off the road engine.

Because of this struggle, his marriage was in danger. He had hire 50 man and even elephant to pull that road engine from the road. Also, the Municipal Chief wanted the narrator to shift their road engine from that place. In the end of the story, the road engine comes in need of the people. Due to earthquake, the road engine came into work.

The narrator’s attempt to move the engine comes out as humorous. This is mainly because it is but humorous that the engine, a vehicle, that is meant to move has not moved even an inch as yet.  

The narrator, who thought it is was good luck to win a raffle or lottery prize, realises that it is not actually his good luck, because he realizes that he has to pay rent to just keep the vehicle.

The fact that the receiver of a prize is put to so many hardships is a joke in itself.
