1. The part of the Peninsular plateau lying to
the north of the Narmada river covering a
major area of the Malwa plateau is known as
the Central Highlands.

2. It is bounded by the Vindhya range in the south and the Aravalis in the north.

3. It is wider in the west but narrower in the east.

4. The westward extension merges with the rock Rajasthan Desert

5. The eastward extensions are locally called Bundelkhand and Baghelkand. its further eastward extension is called the Chotanagpur Plateau

Features of Central Highlands :


(i)     The part of the Peninsular Plateau lying to

the north of the Narmada river covering major area of the Malwa Plateau is

known as the Central Highland.


(ii)  

The Vindhyan

range is bound by the Central Highland on the south and the Aravallis on the

north-west. The further westward extension gradually merges with the sandy and

rocky desert of Rajasthan.


(iii) The flow of the rivers draining this region,

namely Chambal, the Sind, the Betwa and Ken is from south-west to north-east,

thus indicating the slope.


(iv)  The Central Highlands are wider in the West

but narrower in the East.


(v) The eastward extensions of this plateau are locally known as the Bundelkhand and Baghelkhand.
