There are four chambers in the heart. The upper two chambers are called the atria(singular: atrium) and the lower two chambers are called the ventricles. The atrium lying on the right is called the right atrium and the one lying on the left is called the left atrium. Similarly, the ventricle on the right side is called the right ventricle and the one on the left is called the left ventricle.
