Describe the changes that take place

During inspiration, the diaphragm and the intercostal muscles contract. The diaphragm moves downwards increasing the volume of the thoracic (chest) cavity, and the intercostal muscles pull the ribs up expanding the rib cage and further increasing this volume

Diaphragm is the floor of the rib cage. When we inhale the oxygen enters the nasal cavity and reaches the lungs through the wind pipe. Change - when we inhale the air comes in the lungs and causes them to expand which involves the moving out of rib bones and moving down of diaphragm.
