Like other colonial powers , France considered Vietnam as the source of natural resources and other essential commodities. It took following three steps to achieve the aim to exploit the natural resources of Vietnam and to build colonial economy.
Three sreps were:
1. The french began building canals and draining lands in the Mekong delta to increase cultivation.
2. A trans-Indo-China railway network was constructed . It linked Northern and Southern parts of vietnam and China.
3. The second link was built , linking Vietnam to Siam (Thailand) via the Cambodian capital of Phnom Penh . To ensure higher level of profit , French buisinessmen pressurised the government in Vietnam to develop the infrastructured.
