Munshi Prem Chand’s famous play ‘Boodhi Kaki’ was enacted by a team from Azamgarh at the Kalidasa Auditorium in the city on Monday. As many as eight plays written by the famous Indian writer are being enacted at the event organised by at North Zone Cultural Centre (NZCC) in the city till September 8.

The play presented prevalent ugly customs in the society. Stage actors presented the suffering caused to an old woman due to hunger as she was waiting for her food, while her family prioritized outsiders and offered them food. In the play the old woman known as ‘Boodhi Kaki’ who is not offered food by her family which leads her to tears.  

The play began as the actors narrated the life story of the old woman. The play depicts a scene where the old woman goes to eat in kitchen, but she is being scolded by Roopa, her daughter-in law. Later, the woman waited for food, but nobody offered her anything. However, her granddaughter offered her food.

The play presented the tragedy of life of the woman who sacrificed all for her family. In return, she was neglected by her family members. The play also shed light on the custom of showoff to outsiders while an elder member of the family remained hungry.

Song, dance and narration kept the audience engrossed in the enactment put together with negative humor.

Roopa was known to have a sharp tongue ans she had an angry out burst whenever she saw Kaki. She was always rude to Kaki but in front of guests she shows gentle and polite towards everyone. But at last she realized that she was wrong. She made a mistake and she realized her mistake. So, she was good and polite towards everyone with whom she reacted in a very bad way.
