Answers
Explanation:
The guru
The guru in the story is a wise and brave sage who successfully saves his disciple from death.
The gurus wisdom is evident at the start of the story. He realizes that the kingdom they were in, where people slept by day and worked at night, where everything cost only a duddu, enabling them to have a sumptuous meal at a very low price, is really a kingdom of fools and that it is not a good idea for them to stay there. He tells his disciple that the people living there are all fools, that their way of life couldnt last and one never knows what they would do next. When his disciple doesnt listen to him, the guru goes away leaving the disciple behind.
The guru has magical powers. He can see everything in a vision. He can see far into the future just as he can see the present and the past. Like a true guru who loves his disciple, he hears the silent cry of his disciple when he is in trouble, and comes at once to save him.
The wise guru knows that he is dealing with a very foolish king. He uses a clever trick not only to save his disciple but also to get rid of the king and his minister forever. He is very brave, for if the king had not fallen into the trap, his own life could have been in danger.
The disciple
The disciple was a greedy man who was so happy to live in a kingdom where food was cheap and plentiful that he did not heed his wise gurus advice to leave the place. All that the disciple wanted was good, cheap food. The guru tried to convince him to leave, but it was of no use. Even after his guru left, he did not feel bad or regret his decision. He did not miss his guru. He ate his fill everyday bananas and ghee and rice and wheat and grew fat like a bull. He lived like this for months.
It was only when the kings servants dragged him to the stake to replace the thin merchant that he remembered his gurus wise words. He prayed to his guru and entreated him to hear his cry for help. The guru came and saved his life in the nick of time.
