Answer:

A room on the roof is the story of a 17 year old orphan boy, Rusty living with his uncle Mr. Harrison in the European area of Dehradun. This book brings out the character of Rusty as a true adolescent through the spontaneity in writing. Since the book was written by Bond when he was young , we can see the traits of an immature lost boy.

Rusty being an orphan has no sense of what he actually is. He has no identity of his own. His uncle wants to raise him as an Englishman but he finds comfort in the local streets of bazaar and in the festival of Holi. This is where he actually finds himself to belong. This book speaks and touches elegantly on those aspects which are a part of everyone’s childhood. The moments of feeling lost and not knowing what to do and where to go. There are irregular bursts of loneliness that engulf us entirely and leaves us stagnant with time. The sense of freedom one experiences when he escapes from his uncle’s house and embraces the world of friendship and the bubbling emotions of meeting his crush all makes us go back to our childhood days.

It is a tale of a boy who has lost more before forming a basic identity of himself which is why he keeps on searching, wandering around with a kindling flame within him that propels him.
