1) Coke - It is used as a fuel having high carbon content and minor amounts of hydrogen, nitrogen, sulphur, oxygen. It is obtained from the destructive distillation of bituminous coal. It is hard and porous. 

2) Coal tar - Coal tar is a black liquid with very high viscosity, that is, it is very thick.  It is by product of coke's production. It is used to seal pitches in the roof. It is also used as insulating agent to protect the house from the outside weather. Coal tar also act as active ingredient in shampoo that treat head lice. 

3) Coal gas - Coal gas is made from coal by its destructive distillation and is flammable gaseous fuel. It includes number of gases like hydrogen, methane, carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide and nitrogen. This gas is used for illuminating and heating. 

4)  Coal is a fossil form of carbon found in the form of sedimentary rock. It is black-brown in colour and it is highly combustible.
