Describe the chief characteristic of forest ecosystem
Answers
Answer:
I was just exposed to ecology briefly, in zoology 101, but I like it.
Canopy: the crown of trees, the interface between plants and atmosphere. Half of all plants exist here. Many animal species also.
Forest floor: In a mature temperate forest, few green plants due to lack of sunlight. Rotting plant matter ( bark, limbs, leaves) are broken down by hosts of bacteria microorganisms and fungi, making the soil of deciduous forests very rich in carbon. By contrast, the soil of tropical forests is thin and poor, due to leeching of nutrients by heavy rainfall.
Soil: Home to many invertebrates(nematodes, beetles), fungi, bacteria and other microorganisms.
Inorganic parts of an ecosystem: sunlight, rainfall, atmosphere, temperature, geology, geographic location, stage of growth of ecosystem, degree of human interference, time period studied.
Types of forest ecosystem: Boreal(northern), temperate mixed, tropical mixed, tropical rainforest, savannah, transitional forest, recovering forest (ecological recession)
