She was born on June 22,1880 in Tuscumbia, Alabama. She was named after her grandmother. The Keller's house called Ivy Greens was surrounded by trees, fences, creepers, rare flowers and the fragrance of sweet flowers filled with the air. She was a happy child, but an illness, may be meningitis, struck her at a very tender age of just nineteen months and left her blind and deaf. To lose her sight and hearing was like a nightmare, but, she gradually got used to silence and darkness that surrounded her.
