Jammu and Kashmir came into being under the Treaty of Amritsar which took place on 16 March, 1846.

This treaty was signed between Gualb Singh and the British a Amritsar where the treaty was referred as the 'Sale deed of Kashmir'.

Gulab Singh had to pay Rupees 75 lakhs to British in exchange of Jammu and Kashmir.

The whole transaction was made behind the back of the people without aking any regards of their rights.
