Hi Aadya,

Here is your answer...........

Food Security refers to the condition in which all the segments of our society have equal access to food.

In order to ensure availability of food to all sections of the society, our government has carefully designed a National Food Security system.

This system consists of two main components. They are:

1. Buffer Stock

It refers to a stock of food-grains, especially rice and wheat, that the Government of India procures through the Food Corporation of India (FCI), in order to supply them to areas deficit of these grains. Moreover, the FCI procures these food grains from the farmers at the Minimum Support Price (MSP) that is announced by the government.

2. Public Distribution System (PDS)

The PDS is a programme which provides food grains and other essential commodities at subsidised prices in rural and urban areas. It mainly distributes these grains among the poorer section o the society at affordable prices.

Thus, the FCI (Food Corporation of India) is responsible for procuring and stocking food grains, while the PDS (Public Distribution System) ensures their distribution.

Thank You
