Hello Friend!!
Rajdeep here.....
What is Security Council?
Security Council is one of the main Organs of the United Nations, an Organisation which was framed after the Second World War to maintain the World Peace.
Now...
What's the Composition of the Security Council?
The Security Council comprises 15 members, 5 of which are representatives of the Big Five Permanent Members, i.e., USA (America), Britain (England), France, Russia and China.
The other ten members are elected by the General Assembly for a two-year term, on recommendations of the Security Council. A retired member is not eligible for immediate re-election.
So, now, what are the functions of the Security Council?
=> The Security Council is responsible for the trial of all cases which can lead to an international friction (world-peace disturbance).
=> The Security Council can judge cases regarding conflicts between nations and recommend for peaceful settlement of conflicts through Negotiation, Mediation, or Arbitration.
=> The Security Council takes measures to punish a country who tries an attempt to War with other nations and disturb world peace. The Security Council, first do not take armed action against the aggressor.
First, the aggressor is warned. Next, there is complete cut off of economic, military and social relations with the country. The transport system of the aggressor country is banned.
If, still, the aggressor does not listen, military action is taken. The arms, and the armies are supplied by the member nations of the United Nations.
=> The Security Council, along with the General Assembly, takes part in the election of the Secretariat, members of the Economic and Social Council.
Hope my answer is satisfactory.....
Thanks!!
