Answer:
.Emergency is clamped when the national security is at risk or at some point where there is a national calamity which affects the entire nation due to some natural catastrophe etc. But in 1975 when Indira Gandhi’s continuation as P.M. was at stake she clamped national emergency more for personal reasons and less for national security. This led to the misuse of special powers conferred during emergency by some sycophants and selfish politicians close to Indira Gandhi, which threatened some fundamental rights like freedom of speech etc guaranteed by the constitution and there was almost a revolt by free media like ‘Indian express’ and ‘Statesman’ those days. People were parching for freedom those days. Ultimately wise council prevailed, and Indira Gandhi with an utterly misleading feed back that her popularity doubled during emergency lifted emergency and declared general elections. In those elections congress including Indira Gandhi and her younger son miserably lost and newly emerged Janata party under the leadership of Morarji Desai came into power and restored the fundamental rights. It is a different thing that Janata party which raised high expectations, failed due to internal squabbles and again handed over power to INC.
