Xylem vessels and tracheids are tubular structures, which allow vertical transport of water and minerals. Vessel cells are continuous, while tracheids are discontinuous. They are both conductive tissues.

Xylem parenchyma stores food and conducts water sideways.

Xylem fibres are supportive in function.

XYLEM PLANT TISSUE

Xylem, plant vascular tissue that conveys water and dissolved minerals from the roots to the rest of the plant and also providesXYLE physical support. Xylem tissue consists of a variety of specialized, water-conducting cells known as tracheary elements. Together with phloem (tissue that conducts sugars from the leaves to the rest of the plant), xylem is found in all vascular plants, including the seedless club mosses, ferns, horsetails, as well as all angiosperms (flowering plants) and gymnosperms (plants with seeds unenclosed in an ovary).
