Answer:

The conversation between Mr. Braun and Albert in the beginning of the chapter ‘Albert Einstein at School’ reflects many things. It reflects Einstein’s dislike for boring aspects of education; it also reflects the rigidity of Mr. Braun, the history teacher.

Mr. Braun asked Einstein if he knew in which year had the Prussians defeated the French at Waterloo? Albert confessed he did not know as he didn’t see any point in learning dates as they could be looked up in the book anytime.

Albert’s reply infuriated his teacher and he remarked angrily that it meant Albert was not interested in learning facts. The young scientist frankly admitted he was not interested in the facts. This further angered the teacher and he assumed Albert was not interested in education.

However, Einstein made it clear to the teacher that learning facts was not education; rather learning new ideas was education. He further argued that he would rather try to learn why the soldiers were trying to kill each other.

This wise answer silenced the teacher and he scolded him for wasting everyone’s time. He also punished him and said bad things about him.
