The inherent defects of Weimar Republicwere:
)It never controlled the rump German army which did whatever it wanted.
)It never outlawed-or even inconvenienced-extremist groups, both on the left and right, which used the system but only for the purpose of destroying it.
)A large sector of the population hated the republic. These included monarchists, conservative land owners (Junkers),powerful coal and steel barons, army officers, and most of the judiciary. This gang, centered mostly in the German National People’s Party (DNVP) did everything in their-considerable-power to destroy the republic.Under the leadership of Franz von Papen they finally succeeded-forming a coalition with Hitler to achieve that.
)Article 48 of the Weimar Constitution allowed the president to ignore the Reichstag and rule by decree.Hindenburg did that starting in March 1930 when he and Chancellor Bruning began issuing laws without parliamentary approval. This was the real end of democracy in Germany though the republic sputtered on for another 3 years
