(i) Recognition of Tamil as an official language.

(ii) More autonomy to provinces populated by Tamils. Equality of opportunity in securing education and jobs.

(iii) Later, they demanded formation of an independent Tamil Elam (state) in Northern and Eastern part of Sri Lanka.
