The Sun’s energy reaches Earth and travles through the atmosphere. Certain bacteria and protists also undergo photosynthesis, but the main focus is on plants. Plants undergo photosynthesis to produce glucose, which can be used to make ATP. This ATP is either used by the plant or stored as starches.
Plants are then eaten by herbivorous animals or insects, which can break down the starch for energy or, once again, store it (this time as glycogen).
Carnivorous animals can then eat these animals so that they can also produce usable energy.
Basically, without the Sun’s energy, the entire food chain would cease to exist.
