Answer:

Depending on how new the new computer is and how old the old computer is, the differences can be huge or not much.

In general, newer computers are going to be smaller, less expensive (compared to the old computer when it was new), more powerful and/or more efficient, and have more features. From the early days to the mid 2000s, clock speeds and processing power grew exponentially. RAM speeds and capacity grew. Storage speed and capacity grew, and the amount of power needed for a given amount of performance has decreased.

Around the mid 2000s came the introduction of multi-core processors, and while raw clock speed hasn’t increased nearly as fast as it used to, the multiple cores help distribute tasks among the cores.

For a given generation of computer, you will have low end, mid range, and high end devices.

In addition to having multiple cores, many modern processors have features that make more efficient use of those cores, such as Intel’s hyper threading, and the ability to reduce power or shut down to prevent overheating.

Some advances include the elimination of some hazardous materials such as lead from computers.
